I. Social Services Advocate

II. Overall Responsibility
 
The Social Services Advocate helps bridge the gap for patients and connects them with additional healthcare resources. Primary duties include assisting patients who have been referred to a specialist by the Nurse Practitioner, in completing eligibility paperwork for UAB Charity Care or Project Access. The Social Services Advocate is also responsible for scanning documents, including eligibility applications and medical records, into the Clinic’s EMR.
 
III. Accountability
 
Directly accountable to Office Manager and then to CRNP and Executive Director as situation warrants.
 
IV. Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Maintain close contact with both patients and Financial Assistance Programs.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to complete referral eligibility process.
  • Follow up on submitted applications to ensure all documentation has been received.
  • Scan patient re-certification applications and patient records into DataNet.
  • Always adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Place confidential documents to be shredded in shred bin daily.
  • Cover for Receptionist, when needed
  • Clean and sanitize work area daily.
  • Perform additional miscellaneous duties, as assigned if needed.
 
V. Skills and Knowledge Required
 
  • Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills in person and over the telephone.
  • Has proficiency in computer programs/typing skills.
  • Understands how to ask for help when situations or problems present which are beyond their ability or knowledge.
  • Exhibits a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Represents the clinic in a professional manner to patients and guests.
  • Always maintains a positive attitude.

 
Note: The Social Services Advocate will under NO circumstances offer medical advice to patients. All medical inquiries will be directed to the Medical Assistant or CRNP.
 
VI. Education and Experience
 
High school education and 2 years clerical experience required.
 
VII. Salary
 
Commensurate with certification and experience.
 
Job Type: Part-time
 
Salary: $12.00 - $14.00 per hour

Medical receptionist: 2 years (Preferred)
Customer service: 2 years (Preferred)
