Elks Lodge Flag Day Celebration
Each year, the Elks lead Flag Day celebrations across the nation. Our Cullman community celebration will be at the Cullman Elks lodge Wednesday evening, June 8 at 7pm. It is a colorful and patriotic ritual that is both fun and educational for all the family, including kids and grandkids. We talk about the history of our flag, display different ones from several periods in American History, have patriotic music and meet some of our local military veterans, who have fought for our flag.
This year, our veterans will include three from World War Two, three double Purple Heart recipients from the Vietnam War, a combat medic with three tours in Iraq, a veteran who served a combat tour in Bosnia, two in Iraq and four in Afghanistan and a lady vet who recently returned from Afghanistan.
Our guest speaker piloted 40 Bomber combat missions against the Luftwaffe in WW2, flew against the Japanese in the Pacific, flew for the Air Force during Korea, and flew combat missions again in Vietnam. He still plays golf three days a week at Terri Pines, is firm of voice and foot and recently celebrated his 96th birthday.
You don't want to miss this outstanding living history event.
A free dinner will be served at 6:00 pm with the program beginning at 7:00 and concluding about 7:40. Please contact Patrick James at 256-338-2599 for more information.
